Euphorbia Knuthii
Common Name: Medusa Head
Euphorbia Knuthii is a fascinating caudiciform succulent that draws attention with its twisted, snaking stems and sculptural base. This unusual species forms a thick, woody caudex from which thin, sprawling green stems emerge—often resembling a Medusa’s head or a tangle of vines. It’s a true conversation piece and a favorite among collectors of oddball succulents and bonsai-style plants.
Native to South Africa, E. knuthii thrives in dry conditions and is known for its resilience and quirky growth. With time, the caudex becomes even more pronounced, adding to its bonsai-like charm.
☀ Light Requirements
Enjoys bright, indirect light to partial sun. Can tolerate full sun with gradual acclimation but prefers protection from harsh afternoon rays in hot climates.
💧 Watering Needs
During active growth (spring/summer), water when the soil is dry to the touch. In winter, reduce watering significantly to mimic natural dormancy. Always ensure excellent drainage to protect the caudex from rot.
🌡 Temperature Tolerance
Not frost-hardy. Protect from temperatures below 40°F. For winter shipping or colder zones, consider adding a [Heat Pack].
✨ Special Features
• Caudex-Forming – Thickened, woody base develops character with age.
• Twisting Growth – Sprawling, twining stems create a wild, medusa-like look.
• Bonsai Potential – Popular among caudiciform collectors and great for shallow pots.
Other Common Names:
